How to Run an Elevated Command Prompt
Issue:
While trouble shooting an issue, it may be necessary that commands be run in an MS-DOS command prompt under elevated mode.

Product:

Environment:
Windows 8, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP

Cause:
The privileges of the members of the Administrators group are not equivalent nor sufficient to the Administrator User privileges and
therefore even for the members of this group, commands require to be elevated to gain necessary privilege.

Resolution:
Elevated mode was a restriction introduced by Windows Vista User Access Control.

Windows 8
To run an elevated command prompt in Windows 8:  (if displaying START screen in Windows 8, start at step 2.)

1. Press keyboard 'Windows key'
2. Type word 'command'
3. Then right-click on 'Command Prompt'
4. From menu click 'Run as administrator' (menu is at bottom of screen in Windows 8)
5. If you are not an administrator of the computer a dialog box will be shown prompting for the administrator password

Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 and later Servers
To run an elevated command prompt under Windows Vista, Windows 7 and the Windows Server 2008 and later family of operating systems:

1. Click Start
2. In the search box type in command
3. Right-click 'Command Prompt' in the search results list
4. Click 'Run as administrator' from the popup menu
5. If you are not an administrator of the computer a dialog box will be shown prompting for the administrator password

(Note: the Windows 8 procedure will also with Windows Vista, 7 and Servers 2008 and later if you start at step 1.)

Windows XP and Windows Server 2003
There is no concept of elevated command prompts for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, on these platforms running a command
prompt with Administrator privileges will achieve the same effect.
