In this edition, we hear from our Head of Social Impact, Hayley Nissim. Hayley is responsible for our Foundation’s funding program in Australia and New Zealand, driving social impact through volunteering and workplace giving initiatives, and chairing the Reconciliation Action Plan working group.

Hayley has over 14 years of experience with corporate foundations and the non-profit sector. She previously led the Audi Foundation for Audi Australia. She has also held roles at Life Education Australia, Royal North Shore Hospital, and Cancer Council NSW.

Outside of work, Hayley enjoys watching her boys play soccer and rugby, as well as outdoor activities like running, hiking, swimming, and traveling.

What motivates and excites you about your role at Schneider Electric?

The opportunities that Schneider presents me with every day are dynamic and exciting and allow me to engage across a broad spectrum of work in a fast-paced and exciting industry. I can say hands down that every day is different, and I love that I am continuously learning.

We’re one of the leading companies in the world when it comes to sustainability. How are you and your team contributing to this?

For over 25 years, the Foundation under the aegis of Fondation de France, has deployed philanthropic initiatives in line with the Schneider Sustainability Impact index. Its focus is on training youth to improve quality of life and job prospects. Vocational and entrepreneurship training is a key driver of socio-economic and sustainable development.

By delivering our expertise, volunteering time, and collaborating and supporting partners on the ground, we enable individuals and communities to attain a better future.

In terms of social impact, which person or organisation do you consider to be an ‘#ImpactMaker’ and why?

Very recently I had the privilege of meeting Ben Stammer, Founder of new NFP ReLove

ReLove rescues furniture and whitegoods from corporates, hotel chains, and community and delivers them directly to people who need a helping hand. In just 5 years, Relove has grown to be one of Sydney’s leading support services for people in crisis who need to create homes from scratch, supporting over 15 families a week impacted by domestic violence, people experiencing homelessness, and people seeking asylum.

I consider Relove an #ImpactMaker because their work not only aims to raise social consciousness, but will ensure a lasting social, economic, and environmental uplift to communities across Sydney resulting in a better and more sustainable place in which we live.

What was a moment in your career that was pivotal or changed you in some way?

Moving from the not-for-profit sector where I was working for charities, to corporate foundation was a pivotal, point in my career. My experience in the NFP sector ensured I was well placed to continue working with these organisations, whilst leveraging the tools of the corporate sector.

Which of our company values resonates with you most and why?

Our new IMPACT values are Inclusion, Mastery, Purpose, Action, Curiosity, and Teamwork. Mastery resonates with me, as I am passionate about developing my skills and knowledge and ensuring I am always ahead of the game and well equipped to push the boundaries.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Can I share two things?

Firstly, would be to never stop learning and growing as a person. Secondly, to treat others as wish to be treated – this one is my mantra, and something I repeat to my boys daily.
