What is the field-installable Kirk Key interlock mounting provision for the Powerpact M, P and R frame breakers?
Product Line:
Circuit Breakers
Environment:
Applies to PowerPact M, P and R
Resolution:
For Powerpact M, P, and R breakers, the Kirk Key Interlock provision is NOT available for field installation. The provision is only available factory installed on the breaker cover. For an existing breaker, instead of having to replace the breaker, the customer can return the breaker/cover via return tags to the plant to have the lock "provision" (mounting bracket) installed, based on the below. Then you can buy a Kirk lock from the vendor directly to install on the breaker.
NOTE: Return options are below based on type of breaker you have.
PowerPact M:
Unit Mount = Return of Cover Only is acceptable
I Line = Return of Cover Only is acceptable
PowerPact P:
Unit Mount = Return of Cover Only is acceptable
I Line = Return of Cover Only is acceptable
PowerPact R:
Unit Mount = Return of Cover Only is acceptable
I Line = Return of Cover Only is acceptable
For cases where the breaker is in service and the cover cannot be removed, take clear pictures showing the serial number, catalog number, and date code, and obtain a Repair and Return RMA from Claims requesting JA provisions be added to an M or P frame breaker or JK provisions be added for an R frame breaker. Send the RMA number along with the photo on a CR to Cedar Rapids Customer Service inbox. A new cover will be made and shipped. Once they remove the original cover and place the new cover on the breaker, they will still need to ship the original cover back to the plant.
If the existing breaker has a padlock attachment, it will have to be removed. The key lock and padlock take up the same position on the breaker cover.
When returning the Breaker/Cover ask for "suffix JA (vertical mounting) (for M or P frame) or JK (horizontal mounting)(for M, P or R frame)" for Kirk provision. The return TAGs will be for a "code 50 return and repair".
Suffix for "JR" for Schneider (Federal Pioneer) provision is no longer available, since about Sept. 2013.
Please Note: Process is not applicable to OEM/Special breakers. The label on the cover of the breaker will be replaced when the provisions are installed which will not be possible for OEM breakers since the catalog number is set and cannot be modified. May have to consider ordering the breaker under the Square D part number with the appropriate interlock provision suffix.
The lock part numbers are as follows:
Kirk Single Lock (horizontal mount) KFL003710 ADD 3 INCH ROLL PIN for Powerpact M, P and & R Breakers for (vertical mount) KFL003710 for Powerpact M & P Breakers Only
No longer available - Federal Pioneer Single Lock (horizontal mount) VFR-3/8-E for Powerpact M, P & R Breakers Only.
