Orientation of the fiber optic port terminations on the TCSESM switches are reversed.

Article available in these languages: Spanish

Issue
The orientation of the fiber optic terminations on the TCSESM managed switches are reversed from that
found on the 499NOS27100 managed switches.

Product Line
All TCSESM managed switches.

Environment
Windows 10

Resolution
Inform the user that the orientation of the fiber optic terminations on the TCSESM managed switches
are reversed from that found on the NOS managed switches.

The fiber optic Ethernet connection terminations on the TCSESM switches are labeled as transmit
and receive using a circle with an arrow pointing to the left or right direction.

The fiber optic Ethernet connection terminations on the 499NOS27100 managed switch is not labeled
and it is very difficult to determine which connection is for transmit and receive.

If you assume the terminations on both the switches are oriented in the same manner, this could
cause a problem when the two different switches are connected together in a redundant ring.

When connecting both type of switches together in a redundant ring configuration, the user should
be aware that:

  • The terminations on the TCSESM switches are labeled as transmit on top and receive on the
bottom of the fiber optic connection.
  • The terminations on the non labeled 499NOS switches are receive on top and transmit on the
bottom of the fiber optic connection.
