How to start Machine SCADA Expert at Windows startup.
Issue:
How can we set the EcoStruxure Machine SCADA Expêrt Runtime to start at Windows startup?
Product Line:
EcoStruxure Machine SCADA Expert (all versions)
Resolution:
To start Machine SCADA Expert at Windows startup, there are two possible ways to do it.
1- Create a shortcut for the RunStartup.exe utility and put it in the "Startup" folder of Windows.
For Machine SCADA Expert v8.1, the utility is in the Bin directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\EcoStruxure Machine SCADA Expert v8.1\Bin\RunStartUp.exe
For Version v20.0, it is in the Bin directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\EcoStruxure Machine SCADA Expert 2020\Bin\RunStartUp.exe
Right-click on the utility and in the context menu, click "Create shortcut".
Move this shortcut to the "Startup" directory of Windows:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp
This RunStartUp utility launches in runtime, the last project opened with the Machine SCADA Expert development environment.
It is also possible to define the project to launch using command lines. Details on how to do this are given in FAQ FA400816:
Title => "EcoStruxure Machine SCADA Expert - How do I run an application in the Runtime without running the Buildtime Studio?"
URL => https://www.se.com/ca/en/faqs/FA400816
With this method, for the runtime to fully start, a user must be logged into Windows. The use of an Autologin in Windows is therefore recommended.
2- Run the runtime as a Windows service.
This method ensures that all Machine SCADA Expert server processes start when Windows starts even if no user is logged into Windows. On the other hand, there is no viewer started allowing to view the graphic pages. (Processes run in session 0 of Windows.)
Details on how to perform this configuration are given in the "Run a project as a Windows service" section of the software help.
For the viewer, once logged into Windows, there is a "Studio Service" icon in the task bar. A right click onto it will open a contextual menu allowing to start the Viewer application.
If it is required to have the viewer started at Windows startup, a shortcut can be created for the "Viewer.exe" application, found in the "Bin" directory and place this shortcut in the "Startup" directory of Windows.
