How to setup the PM5000 meter for SNMP communications and where to download the PM5000 MIB file?
Issue
User is looking for the meter's MIB file for communication over SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) for the PowerLogic PM5000 series meter.

Product Line
PowerLogic PM5000 series meter

Environment
Basic metering offer

Cause
The MIB file for the PM5000 series meter needs to be loaded into the NMS (network management station) as required by SNMP.  It is an application layer protocol that enables the exchange of network management information between devices, allowing you to manage network performance and to identify and solve problems on networks with devices of various types.

Resolution
By default, SNMP communication is enabled and SNMP trapping is disabled. Use the meter’s webpages to enable / disable SNMP and configure SNMP parameters.

**NOTE: Ensure that the 'Enable SNMP' is set to Yes within the meter's webpages in order to communicate over SNMP via Ethernet.

1. Log into the PM5560 meter's webpages using the default credentials. [User: user1, Password: pass1]
2. Navigate to Settings -> SNMP Settings using the left toolbar.
3. Modify the 'Enable SNMP' option to 'YES'.
4. The system contact can be used to enter the name of your SNMP Administrator, system name allows you to enter a descriptive name for the meter while system location allows you to define the location of the meter.
5. You may select the option of whether to enable SNMP trapping on the meter by choosing YES or NO. The Trap receiver 1/2 IP Address fields allows you to enter up to 2 trap receiver IP addresses where trap messages are sent.
6. Click on Save Changes and Exit the meter's webpage.

The meter is compliant with MIB-II as defined by the standard MIB file RFC 1213. RFC 1213, which is required to read basic network information for the meter (for example, TCP/IP traffic or number of packets received), must be installed if it is not included with your SNMP manager software.

SNMP trapping allows your meter’s agent to notify the NMS of events with an unsolicited SNMP message (a “trap” of the meter’s alarm event). SNMP trapping is only supported on SNMP v2.

The meter is configured to use the standard SNMP ports to receive requests.

Port 161: Receives requests When the SNMP agent (the meter) receives a request on port 161, a response is sent to the source port on the NMS.
Port 162: Receives notifications (traps)

** The MIB file is attached below.
