The recent resurgence of spam is a major threat to network security. The ever increasing volume and complexity of spam can result in lower user productivity, and slower network performance. Additionally, the recent surge of image-spam is a particularly heavy consumer of bandwidth and storage space. To combat these threats, many IT administrators are turning to spam firewalls and integrated security appliances. If the security appliance experiences any downtime, such as in the case of a power outage, the result can have a detrimental business impact. Using an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to protect both the email server and the spam firewall will ensure the "good" email gets through, and the "bad" email doesn't, even during a power outage. As an APC Technology Partner, Barracuda Networks has built APC UPS support into its Barracuda Spam Firewall product line. This application note will present the features and benefits of that integration.
