Issue:
Confirming whether a Homeline load center will accept HOMT Tandem circuit breakers when the catalog number is unknown.
Product Line:
Homeline Load Centers
Resolution:
NOTE: Older style or Non Plug-On Neutral Homeline load centers were designed to meet the UL standard and the NEC Circuit Limiting Requirement. Because of the circuit limiting requirement, not all spaces in the older Non Plug-On Neutral load centers would accept tandem breakers.
1) Some of the older Non Plug-On Neutral were designed NOT to accept ANY HOMT tandem breakers. For example, a catalog number HOM40M200C, contains 40 full single pole spaces with NO HOMT tandem breaker positions.
2) Some were designed to accept HOMT breakers only in some of the spaces. For example, a catalog number of HOM3040M200C contains 30 full spaces-40 circuits by using HOMT tandems in ONLY 10 pole spaces.
3) Some were designed to accept the HOMT tandem breakers in all spaces. For example, a catalog number of HOM2040M200C contains 20 full spaces-40 circuits by using HOMT tandems in every pole space.
4) ALL the Current Convertible, Double Row Construction are considered Plug-ON Neutral and fully 'Tandemized', which means they will accept a HOMT type tandem breaker in every pole position. For example,
a) A catalog number of HOM3060L125PC contains 30 full spaces-60 circuits by using HOMT tandem breakers.
b) A catalog number of HOM2448M125PC contains 24 full spaces-48 circuits by using HOMT tandem breakers.
c) A catalog number of HOM4080L225PGC contains 40 full spaces-80 circuits by using HOMT tandem breakers.
c) A catalog number of HOM4284M200PC contains 42 full spaces-84 circuits by using HOMT tandem breakers

If the catalog number cannot be determined for a Homeline load center, Start at the opposite end of the Main Breaker or Main lug on the interior and inspect the bus stab where the circuit breaker plug-on jaw connects to the interior. The bus stabs that will accept a tandem circuit breaker, will be notched in the center of the stab. If the bus stab is solid in the center, that space will ONLY accept full sized single pole circuit breakers and will NOT accept a HOMT tandem.
