Is the AIC rating the same for a molded case switch as it is for a circuit breaker in the same frame type?
Issue:
Does a Molded Case Switch have the same AIC rating as does a circuit breaker with the same frame?
Product Line:
Molded Case Circuit Breakers
Resolution:
A switch does not have an AIC rating. It has a withstand rating at a given voltage and current, usually indicated by the second letter in the part number and listed in a table.
Note: The withstand rating is the fault current at rated voltage that the molded case switch will withstand without damage when protected by a circuit breaker with an equal continuous current rating.
