Can a 2 pole CAFI, GFI, or EPD breaker be used to feed (2) 120 V single pole circuits with a common neutral (shared neutral)?
Issue:
Can a 2-pole CAFI, GFI or EPD breaker be used on (2) 120 V circuits with a shared neutral?
Product Line:
Circuit Breakers
Resolution:
Yes, 2 pole CAFI, GFI, and EPD circuit breakers can be used to feed two single pole 120 Vac circuits with a common neutral.
This situation often occurs when a multi-wire conductor is used to feed the 2 circuits. These may be applied on the following systems:

- 2p CAFI: ok for use on a 120/240 V system. NOT ok for use on a 208Y/120 V system.
- 2p GFI and EPD: ok for use on a 120/240 V system as well as a 208Y/120 V system.
