How do Altivar drives react when the motor current reaches the current limitation threshold?
Issue:
Wondering how the Altivar drives react when the motor current reaches the current limitation threshold.

Product Line:
All Altivar VFDs

Environment:
All models

Cause:
Motor/load requires more current than the current limitation threshold.

Resolution:
Schneider Electric drives have a current limitation function through the parameter CLI or F601.  This is a functional current limit that the drive output will not exceed, no matter the load or the motor state.

- During acceleration : If the current limit is reached during acceleration, the drive will not follow the initial ramp and acceleration time, but will reduce the acceleration and continue to increase the speed if possible. Depending on the load, the drive can decelerate to a speed where the current is under the CLI.

- During deceleration : Same action as during acceleration.

- During steady state : Same behavior as during acceleration or deceleration. If the load increases (current increases) and reaches the CLI, the drive will decrease the speed to maintain control of the load.
