Cause
The MIB file for the ION7400/PM8000 series meter needs to be loaded into the NMS (network management station) as required by SNMP. It is an application layer protocol that enables the exchange of network management information between devices. It allows one to manage network performance, identify, and solve problems on networks with devices of various types.
Resolution
The meter is compliant with MIB-II as defined by the standard MIB file RFC 1213. RFC 1213, which is required to read basic network information for the meter (for example, TCP/IP traffic or number of packets received) must be installed if it is not included with your SNMP manager software.
Modifying Default MIB
If the default SNMP information provided by the meter has been modified then the MIB file must be configure in order for the MIB file labels to reflect the modified values.

NOTE: You should only configure the variable name and description. Changing other fields in your MIB file may cause the client software to report problems or return errors when trying to retrieve or view parameters.
The variable name must conform to the following rules:
• The first character must be a lower case letter.
• The name must not contain any special characters such as *, ?, &.
• The name must not contain spaces.
**NOTE: Ensure that the 'ETH1 Enable SNMP' register within the Setup Assistant is set to Yes in order to communicate over SNMP via Ethernet.

- Open your meter’s MIB file in a text editing program (such as Notepad).
- Update the variable name and description so they match the meter values connected to the SNMP Mapping module.
- Save your meter’s MIB file. Make sure you keep the original file extension of .MIB.
**NOTE: Ensure that the 'ETH1 Enable SNMP' register within the Setup Assistant is set to Yes in order to communicate over SNMP via Ethernet.
Enabling SNMP communication on ION7400 / PM8000
- Connect to the ION7400/PM8000 series meter within ION Setup and open Setup Assistant.
- Navigate to Communications -> Network Settings using the left toolbar.
- Select the SNMP tab and change the 'ETH1 Enable to SNMP' to 'YES'.
- Exit Setup Assistant.
