SDSA1175 SDSA1175T Selection, Voltage, Wiring, and Ground
Problem: Choosing between SDSA1175 or SDSA1175T for ordering.
Product Options: SDSA1175 120/240V or SDSA1175T 120V surge protection devices (SPDs) with a surge current rating of 36kA per phase.
Environment: 120V 1P Single Phase or 240/120V 1P Split Phase.
Reason: Ordering the wrong SPD requires return/exchange, if possible. One SPD cannot substitute for the other. It is crucial to order the correct SPD with the appropriate voltage code.
- It is essential to order the appropriate SPD with the correct voltage code. If you have 120V 1P, the SDSA1175T is the correct SPD, not the SDSA1175 120/240V.

Solution: SDSA1175 and SDSA1175T units lack a green wire for connection to the electrical system ground. The neutral wire, usually a larger #AWG wire, provides a lower impedance path back to the N-G Bond. SDSA1175 and SDSA1175T have a white neutral wire, used for surge current dissipation back to the electrical system service entrance.
Details:
- SDSA1175: Three-wire surge suppressor for 120/240 VAC services (2 phase conductors, a neutral, and no ground).
- SDSA1175T: Two-wire surge suppressor for 120 VAC services (1 phase conductor, a neutral, and no ground).
