How to download CPU OS Quantum using Modbus Plus protocol?

Context
The download of the Quantum CPU operating system can only be done through a direct connection between the PC and the CPU using the Modbus or Modbus Plus protocol.
However Modbus Plus communication is faster than Modbus communication and requires less time to download a binary file.
Prerequisites
  • The Modbus Plus Driver software must already be installed on the PC because it is the driver which will allow the PC to recognize the TSXCUSBMBP cable
  • OS Loader must also be installed on the PC because it is the software that allows the OS to be transferred to the PLC
  • TSXCUSBMBP Modbus Plus USB adapter which is the Modbus Plus interface on the PC
NOTE: Shut down the CPU before initiating communication with OS Loader whether to read a firmware version or update firmware. The update procedure is a maintenance operation. This requires the CPU to be in STOP mode and disconnected from the systems and applications it affects. When a module is addressed through the CPU, the CPU must be in STOP mode and no functional communication traffic takes place between the CPU and the module.

On Modbus Plus, the default CPU address is address 1.
NOTE: Verify that the Modbus or Modbus Plus 1 address is not used by any device other than the CPU on the network. If another device uses address 1, change it to an address not used on the network.
Installing the Modbus Plus communication adapter
To install the Modbus Plus Communication Adapter (TSXCUSBMBP) hardware, complete the following steps :
  • Connect the TSXCUSBMBP adapter to a USB port on your computer.
NOTE: Do not connect the Modbus Plus adapter cable between the TSXCUSBMBP and the CPU at this step to avoid duplicate Modbus Plus node addresses on the Modbus Plus network. Connect it only after setting the Modbus Plus address (step 4).
  • Follow the installation process until a message appears indicating that the new hardware is ready for use.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Define the Modbus Plus address of the TSXCUSBMBP adapter.
NOTE : The default Modbus Plus address of the CPU is 1. This means that a different address must be assigned to the TSXCUSBMBP adapter.
To modify the Modbus Plus address of the TSXCUSBMBP adapter:
Open Start → All Programs → Schneider Electric - MBX Driver Suite → Setup → MBX Device Drivers.

Select the TSXCUSBMBP adapter and click Modify.
When prompted, select Launch Device Manager.

In Device Manager, select the USB adapter under Modicon Network MBX Devices → USB TSXCUSBMBP

In the configuration window, select the Device Settings tab.

In the Node Address field, select an address value: 2 for example (the address of the TSXCUSBMBP adapter must be different from the address of the CPU).

The Modbus Plus address of the TSXCUSBMBP adapter is now defined.
The TSXCUSBMBP adapter is ready to be used for updating a CPU module.
  • Connect the Modbus Plus adapter cable between the TSXCUSBMBP and the CPU.
