How to Set Up PME 9.0 / 2020 Alarm for Smartlink I/O Channel and Create Subscription on Trigger ?
Introduction
Currently, events and alarms on Smartlink I/O Channels are not supported by the PME driver. It means that no Event or Alarm is raised on the PME Web Application in case of I/O Status change on a Smartlink Channel.This document will explain how to:
- create Alarms under PME Web Application for Smartlink I/O Channels
- trigger an event for Report Subscription
Create Alarm under PME 9.0 Web Application
Expose Custom Measurement with Manual Data Editor
This section explains how to expose the I/O Status of a Smartlink to make them available under the Web Application.Step | Description |
1 | Open Manual Data Editor (MDE) from Management Console |
2 | On the MDE -> click on “Create New Measurement” |
3 | To create a Measurement for I1 Input for CH1 Channel:

4 | To create a Measurement for I2 Input for CH1 Channel, enter “CH1 Input 2 Status” |
5 | To create a Measurement for Q Output for CH1 Channel, enter “CH1 Output Status” |
6 | Repeat steps 3 to 5 to create the Measurements for:

7 | Close all the MDE related windows. |
Create Event under the VIP with Designer
This section is under construction.Create Alarm for Smartlink I/O Channel under Web Application
This section explains how to create a Software Alarm to warn the customer in case of any change on a Smartlink I/O Channel.After implementing Software Alarming => the associated events will be available under the PME Event Log.
Step | Description |
1 | Go under the Windows Services and restart “ION Application Modules Core Services Host” service. This will force the new created measurements available under the Web Application. |
2 | Log in to the PME Web Application. |
3 | Go under SETTINGS menu -> Configuration Tools -> Alarm Configuration and click on “Alarm Rule” button. |
4 | Select the following template: User Defined -> Realtime Digital Setpoint |
5 | Under “Available Measurements” go under the “Custom” folder and select the measurements related to the Smartlink I/O Channel. You can apply the “CH” filter if you have too many Measurements in the “Custom” folder. If you want to create alarm only for I1 and I2, then do not select the Output. You will be able to create a separate alarm later for the Output. |
6 | Gives a specific Alarm Name. Choose an Active and Inactive Condition Label that fit with your application. See the example below. Select also an Alarm Priority: 192 is the threshold for High Priority Alarm. You can choose a lower value. Trigger will be “FALSE (equal to 0)” if the I1 or I2 of the I/O Channel is 0DC (Breaker Open). |
7 | Select the sources to which the alarms will apply. You must have some Smartlink devices declared in the Management Console. |
8 | Create a Schedule if necessary. |
9 | Enter a Rule Name and click on “Finish” button. |
10 | Check that the rule is enabled. |
Testing Smartlink IO Alarm on PME Web Application
This section explains how to verify that the events for the Smartlink I/O channels are available under PME Web Application.I1, I2 Input Alarming
This section explains how to verify that an alarm is raised on PME if the Input status of a Smartlink IO Channel has changed.Step | Description |
1 | Change the status of an input of your Smartlink. |
2 | Check that an alarm is raised on the PME Web Interface. On the example below I have some alarms on I1, I2 for Channels 1 & 2 for a Smartlink SIB. |
3 | Restore the previous status on your Smartlink Input. |
4 | Check on PME that the alarms are no more active. |
5 | On the Event History you will be able to check the Pick up and Drop out events associated to the previous alarm. |
Q Output Alarming
This section explains how to verify that an alarm is raised on PME if the Output status of a Smartlink IO Channel has changed.Step | Description |
1 | Change the status of an output of your Smartlink. |
2 | Check that an alarm is raised on the PME Web Interface. On the example below I have an alarm on an output for Channels 2 for a Smartlink SIB. |

Create Report Subscription on Trigger
Event Watcher for Smartlink IO
This section describes how to create some Templates and Event Watcher to monitor a change on a Smartlink Channel.Step | Description |
1 | Open the Events Watcher from Management Console: Tools -> Event Watcher |
2 | Select the “Templates” tab. |
3 | Give a name to the Template. By example “Smartlink-IO” |
4 | Under section “Edit Smartlink-IO” :
The Templates tab of the Event Watcher Manager should look like the example below. |
5 | Select the “Event Watchers” tab and click on the “New” button. |
6 | Under the section “Edit New Event Watcher”:
The Event Watchers tab of the Event Watcher Manager should look like the example below. |
Create a Report Subscription on Trigger
This section describes how to set up the Report Subscription related to a Smartlink IO trigger.Important:
- Check your SMTP parameters under Management Console -> Tool -> Report Configuration -> Subscriptions
- You must have created your own Report from an available template (Report -> Add Report)
Step | Description |
1 | Log in to the PME Web Application and Select “Report” tab |
2 | Click on the Burger menu -> Manage Subsciptions |
3 | Click on “Add Subscriptions…” button -> select your Report -> click on Next |
4 | Under the Subscription parameters, select “On trigger” and chose the Event Watcher you defined before. |
