ClearSCADA Backup object does not work as expected
Possible symptoms may be:
  • ClearSCADA backs up historic data and/or event data when only configuration is configured for backup
  • Backup fails due to file names being too long
Steps to resolve these issues:
  1. Launch Server Configuration and navigate to System Configuration -> Location
  2. Make sure that Configuration, Data, Historic Data, Event Journal, Historic Files, Data Files, Alarm Summary and Config Changes are stored in unique folders as per the example below:
    • Incorrect: Configuration is stored in "C:\ProgramData\Schneider Electric\ClearSCADA\Database\Config\" and Data is stored in "C:\ProgramData\Schneider Electric\ClearSCADA\Database\", where Data does not have a unique fonder and stored in the Database folder common to the most of the ClearSCADA files. This would result in backing up of all files within the Database folder when Data is to be backed up.
    • Correct: Configuration is stored in "C:\ProgramData\Schneider Electric\ClearSCADA\Database\Config\" and Data is stored in "C:\ProgramData\Schneider Electric\ClearSCADA\Database\Data\", where both Configuration and Data are stored in the separate folders. In this case, only the contents of the Config and Data folders would be backed up when a back up is triggered for either folder.
  3. Do not configure the backup object to store backups in the same folder hosting the database. For example, if the location of the database is "C:\ProgramData\Schneider Electric\ClearSCADA\Database", please avoid pointing the backup object to "C:\ProgramData\Schneider Electric\ClearSCADA\Database" or its sub-folders.
  4. Depending on the security policies enforced by the operating system, a Windows user account might need to be specified in Server Configuration -> System Configuration -> Backup.
