Resolution
  • What is RoHs?
RoHs is the acronym for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. RoHS, also known as Directive 2002/95/EC, originated in the European Union and restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic PRODUCTS. The substances banned under RoHS are lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (CrVI), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).
  • Identifying a NIM RoHs
Since the part number is the same for both RoHs and non-RoHs NIMs, a RoHs compliant Ethernet NIM is identified by modules laser marked with an SV at v2.70 or higher. Non-Rohs versions will always have a firmware version less than 2.70. There are no other physical differences between the two modules.
  • Replacing a non-RoHs NIM with a RoHs NIM
The new RoHs version STBNIP2212 is a direct replacement for the non-RoHs version. There are no functional differences between RoHs and non-Rohs NIMs.
  • Firmware
Firmware for RoHs version NIMs will always be at 2.70 or higher. Non-RoHs NIM firmware will always be less than v.2.70.
RoHs version firmware cannot be loaded into non-RoHs Ethernet NIMs nor can non-RoHs version firmware be loaded into RoHs Ethernet NIMs. The Exec loader file prevents the wrong version from being installed.
  • Performance
RoHs version NIMs use an ARM9 processor instead of an ARM7 used in the non-RoHs. The faster ARM9 results in improved performance over the ARM7.
