How much separation is required between communications cables and power cords?
Issue:
There is a concern that power cords can interfere with signal integrity in data cables if they're installed too closely.
Product Line:
NetShelter SX, NetShelter SV, NetShelter VX, NetShelter WX
Environment:
All versions and serial ranges.
Cause:
Data cables and power cords are sometimes installed in close proximity or may overlap.
Resolution:
The ANSI/TIA-569-C standard speaks directly to the separation of telecommunications and power cables. The recommended distance can vary. Please see ANSI/TIA-569-C.
Anixter has posted a document titled *Anixter Standard Reference Guide that includes excerpts from ANSI/TIA-569-C. In this guide, pages 67 - 68 speak specifically to this question: https://www.anixter.com/en_us/resources/literature/technical-references/standards-reference-guide.html
Besides the ANSI/TIA-569-C, this guide includes information from the following standards: ANSI/TIA-568-C.0, ANSI/TIA-568-C.1, ANSI/TIA-568-C.2, ANSI/TIA-568-C.3, ANSI/TIA-606-B, ANSI/TIA-607-B, ANSI/TIA-862-A, ANSI/TIA-942-A, ANSI/TIA-1005, ANSI/TIA-1179, ISO/IEC 11801, ISO/IEC 11801 Class Ea, IEEE 802.3af, IEEE 802.3at, IEEE 802.3an, IEEE 802.3ba and IEEE 802.1.
