At what motor cable length should an output filter or reactor be used on an Altivar 58?
Issue:
Cable length that requires an output filter or reaction on an ATV58

Product Line:
ATV58 drives

Environment:
Output Filter

Cause:
n/a

Resolution:
Cable length: the longer the cable, the greater the capacitance.
Generally, cable lengths greater than 100 ft (30.5 m) may cause ground faults. For installation where cable capacitances may be a problem, installing a reactor between the drive controller and the motor will increase inductance and decrease the capacitance between cable conductors.
For standard-duty (Not Inverter Duty) motors shorter cable lengths may still cause problems. Below are the recommended maximum cable lengths. In some applications, there may be issues with shorter lengths than shown here.

230 VAC Drives:
1 - 7.5 HP, 200 feet w/o reactor/filter, 400 feet with output reactor, 3000 feet with TCI output filter.

10 - 75 HP, 600 feet w/o reactor/filter, 1200 feet with output reactor, 3000 feet with TCI output filter.

100-and higher HP, 920 feet w/o reactor/filter, 1840 feet with output reactor, 3000 feet with TCI output filter.
*3000 feet is the max recommended by TCI

460 VAC Drives:
1 - 7.5 HP, 50 feet w/o reactor/filter, 100 feet with output reactor, 1000 feet with TCI output filter.

10 - 75 HP, 150 feet w/o reactor/filter, 300 feet with output reactor, 1000 feet with TCI output filter.

100-and higher HP, 230 feet w/o reactor/filter, 460 feet with output reactor, 1000 feet with TCI output filter.
