Sepam ACE850 - can the P1 and P2 ports be connected to two different networks simultaneously?

This FAQ provides some additional details about the Sepam ACE850 module related to redundant network topologies.

During the planning stages of a new project, questions may arise regarding the types of redundant network structures that can be implemented using the Sepam ACE850 module.  Please consult the Sepam Ethernet Guide (Schneider Electric document #SEPED310018EN) for general information on this topic.

Due to a recent increase in emphasis on redundant networks for communication, the question has been raised as to whether or not the ACE850 can be connected to 2 networks at the same time.  Presently, the Sepam ACE850 does not support HSR and the Parallel Redundancy Protocol - 2 features that are available on other Schneider Electric product ranges.  The ACE850 was designed to be used in RSTP networks, and only a single IP address (and Subnet Mask) can be programmed for each ACE850 module.  In addition, each Sepam Series 80 (or 60) relay can only have one ACE850 module connected.

As such, the ACE850 can be connected to 2 networks, but generally one of the redundant topologies described in the Sepam Ethernet Guide must be used.  As shown in the image below, the ACE850 cannot be used in an application where a single Protection Relay must have 2 or more IP addresses.  Also, referring to the ports "P1" and "P2" on the ACE850 module, it is important to note that both ports utilize the same IP address.  Therefore, the ACE850 cannot be used in an application where the P1 port would be physically wired to a network "A" with a given subnet, and the P2 port would be wired to another network"B" on a different subnet.

To summarize, the ACE850 is designed for use with RSTP redundant networks, and it is recommended to follow the topologies described in the Sepam Ethernet Guide.
