Modicon M262 - How to configure a remote connection with 2 levels of LAN?

Here is an example of remote connection with 2 levels of LAN using the Modicon M262 controller:

Configuration of the port forwarding in the NAT router:
  • To connect to the Modicon M262, it is necessary to configure port forwarding on the NAT router from TCP port 11740 to 192.168.1.1:11740
  • To connect to the Modicon M241, it is necessary to configure port forwarding on the NAT router from TCP port 1105 to 10.20.30.1 on LAN2 which is not in the local network of the NAT router. So, it is necessary to also configure a static route in the router to tell it how to reach LAN2. The route needs to tell the NAT router that to access destination network 10.20.30.0/24, it is necessary to use gateway 192.168.1.1 which is the address of the interface ETH1 of the Modicon M262.

In EcoStruxure Machine Expert,
  • To connect to the Modicon M262, double-click on the controller, then in the Controller Selection menu, select connection mode “Fast TCP” and use the public IP address of the NAT router and port 11740. If the port forwarding in the router is correctly configured, all traffic received will be redirected to the Modicon M262 ETH1 interface.

  • To connect to the Modicon M241, double-click on the controller, then in the Controller Selection menu, select connection mode “IP Address via NAT (Remote TCP)” and use the public IP address of the NAT router for the field “NAT address” and the IP address of the Modicon M241 for “Target IP address”.

Note: To connect to several Modicon M262, it is necessary to forward 1 port by device. For example, in the NAT router, forward port 11741 to IP_of_M262_2:11740 and repeat as needed. For Modicon M241/M251 or Modicon M258, forward 1106 to IP_of_M241:1105.
