Can I reset the IP address of an Ethernet Advantys STBNIP2212 if the IP address is not known?
If the IP address of an STBNIP2212 is not known, there are several options available.
1. MAC based default IP address
1. MAC based default IP address
To access the module via its MAC based default IP address, set both rotary switches to 0 and then power cycle the module. The module will default to its MAC based IP. Now you can access the NIP2212 via the web pages and view if an assigned IP is stored in the module. The options are to delete it, change it, or leave it.
2. View stored IP address
Open wireshark (free download from the internet) and begin taking traces. Set the bottom NIM rotary switch to 'bootp' (position of top rotary switch doesn't matter) then power cycle the NIM. After approximately 20 seconds, if the NIM contains a stored IP address, it will show on the trace as an ARP. Use that IP to access and change the NIP2212 via the web pages or Advantys Configuration software.
3. Bootp
Run a bootp server on the network. Set the bottom NIM rotary switch to 'bootp' (position of top rotary switch doesn't matter) then power cycle the NIM. Assign the IP via the bootp server. Access to the NIP2212 will now be available.
