What is the electrical safety?

Electrical safety is a general practice of handling and maintaining electrically powered equipment to prevent incidents. It is crucial to properly identify and control electrical hazards to keep the environment around and those utilising the electrical equipment safe.

What are the five electrical hazards?

The main hazards of working with electricity include electric shock and burns from contact with live parts. Those working with electrical equipment may be at a risk of injury from exposure to arcing (when electricity jumps from one circuit to another). Electrical safety in buildings includes minimising the risk of a fire from faulty electrical equipment or installations or even explosion caused by unsuitable electrical apparatus. One should be also aware of the risk of ignition of flammable vapours or dusts by static electricity, which may take place for example in a spray-paint booth.
