What causes a mains overvoltage fault (OSF) on the ATV320 drive?

Issue:
Why the ATV320 drive displays a mains overvoltage fault (OSF)?

Product Line:
Altivar 320

Environment:
All

Cause:
N/A

Resolution:
A mains overvoltage fault can be caused by a number of reasons:

  • Standard high voltage potential on the drive line terminals L1, L2, and L3.  (Supply voltage is too high)
    • Measure voltage phase to phase to confirm that the voltage supplied does not surpass the drive's rating.
  • Power quality issues in the line supply side of the drive.
    • Spikes or poor power quality can over charge the drives DC bus (PA and PC).  These can be hard to pinpoint as the spikes will not be detected by your standard fluke voltage meter.
    • Should be measuring ~1.41 X line voltage coming in.  If it reads higher then that would indicate that the drive is picking up spikes.
