Why would a shorting contactor have a lower amperage rating than the motor being used?
Issue:
Shorting contactor with lower amperage rating than the motor.

Product Line:
Altistart Soft Starters with shorting contactors

Resolution:
Shorting contactors are usually derated by one size unless you have the full voltage bypass option. This is because the shorting contactor pulls in after the motor is up to full speed from being ramped up by the Soft Starter. So the full amperage rating is not needed since the contactor is not ramping the motor up from zero. However, if you're using a full voltage bypass, the shorting contactor needs to be matched up with the motor amperage.
