Description of Matrix-UPS charging circuit
There are two types of charging modes in the Matrix-UPS. The mode is determined by how many batteries are connected to the Matrix-UPS.
1-2 SmartCells the charging mode is 500W
>3 SmartCells or SmartCell-XR the charging mode is 1000W
There are also two types of charge levels. The first one is called a constant current rate of charge. This type of charging doesn't cause damage to the batteries. This type of charge mode is used until the battery is just below "float" level. Once the batteries have reached this point, the charging mode changes. This second mode of charging is called constant voltage mode or "trickle charge". This mode will be used to maintain the float level of the batteries. The float voltage (VDC) for the Matrix-UPS is about 55.62 VDC for its 48 VDC battery system.
If someone was to look at the internals of the Matrix-UPS, they would not find a "battery charger". The design of the Matrix-UPS incorporates the use of several circuits to charge the batteries. This makes the unit very efficient and results in higher reliability.
