Database Manager
Scheduled Tasks

Cause
PME will create and enable a database size notification Windows scheduled task when it is first installed, if used with SQL Server Express. Ever since SQL Server 2008 R2 Express, the maximum allowed size per database is 10 GB, so this scheduled task is configured by default to notify the user when ION_Data has reached 85% of 9 GB (to leave 1 GB for alarming). To address the warning, there may be a need to either trim or archive the database. A user that has since updated to SQL Server Standard may want to configure or disable the scheduled task.

Resolution
*Warning: Irreparable database damage can occur. This procedure should only be performed by users familiar with SQL Server Management Studio. Databases should be backed up prior to performing this procedure.*

Archive and trim the database:

1. Open Management Console, then go to Tools > Database Manager

Note: Only Windows users that have been added to SQL as a member of the sysadmin role can open Database Manager.

2. Right-click ION_Data and select Archive

Database manager

3. Click the "..." button to select the folder where the archive will be saved
4. Check the box next to the types of data to be included in the archive, such as Data, Waveform, and Event Records
5. Specify the date range of the data to be archived
6. Check the box under "Trim after archive" to delete the data from the live database after it is archived, or alternatively follow the remaining steps to use the Trim function
7. Click OK

DB Manager Archive

8. After the archive is finished, right-click ION_Data and select Trim

DB Manager 2

9. Specify the date range of the data to be removed from the live database
10. Check the box next to the types of data to be included in the archive, such as Data, Waveform, and Event Records
11. Click OK

DB Manager Trim

Note: The database size notification should now stop, since the live database has been trimmed and a separate archive of the historical data has been created. To run reports on the archive rather than the live database, open Management Console and navigate to Tools > Reports Configuration and select it in the dropdown menu under "Location of report data".

Configure the scheduled task:

Refer to FA210014 for instructions on how to configure the [ION_Data] - SIZE NOTIFICATION - Job scheduled task.

Disable the scheduled task:

1. Open Windows Task Scheduler
2. Expand Task Scheduler Library > Schneider Electric, then select Power Monitoring Expert
3. Right-click [ION_Data] - SIZE NOTIFICATION - Job and select Disable
