Issue:
Differences between Harmonic mitigating transformers and K-Factor transformers
Product Line:
Low Voltage Transformers
Environment:
Applies to Low Voltage Transformers by SquareD/Schneider Electric
Resolution:
A K- factor transformer is an oversized transformer with more copper to protect itself against heating from the harmonics. A harmonic mitigating transformer is designed more like a zig-zag transformer, which can counter the harmonics within the windings. This is more effective in reducing the harmonic distortion. The K-factor will not reduce the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).
