What is the Programming software for a Modicon Quantum PLC?
Issue
Customer has a Modicon Quantum PLC and needs the programming software for it.
Product line
Modicon Quantum
Resolution
There are essentially three scenarios:
1. Customer is using a 'Unity Quantum'.
While this controller is obsolete, it can still be programming using the active sale EcoStruxure Control Expert programming software.
Unity Controller part numbers are 140CPU6xxxx, 140CPU31100, 140CPU43412U, 140CPU53414U and it is also possible that a customer has converted either a 140CPU43412A or 53414A/B to Unity.
2. Customer is using Legacy Concept IEC programming in the legacy controller.
If the Controller was programming using Concept previous with v2.5, then there is no way to connect to the controller and program it unless the customer in possession of the Concept projects that are running equal in the PLC. If the Controller was programmed using version 2.5 and later, then there is a chance that they can connect and read from the controller, but it will depend on the initial configuration. If upload info was not included, then again, they will need to projects that are running in the Controller. If they need the Concept IEC programming software, it is obsolete and will need to be asked for through technical support (30 day trial).
Concept Part numbers are any 140CPUxxxxx controllers that are not one of the 4 Unity controller part numbers above. Again it is possible that while they could initially be programmed with Concept, it is possible that a 140CPU43412A or 53414A/B has been converted to Unity.
3. Customer is using Legacy 984LL programming in the legacy controller.
If this is the case all of the software is obsolete, but they can try to use ProWORX32 trial if available from technical support.
ProWORX-based PLCs have Part numbers the same as the Concept-based PLC part number (140CPUxxxxx) prefix above.
The requirement to determine which scenario applies so that we can identify what they can get, will be the full part number of the Quantum controller along with what it is currently programmed with (if it is programmed) or one of the existing project files so that we can determine the software requirement.
