Answer
Issue
While trying the read any of Modbus registers using Modbus Tester Tool on the PM8000 v3.0.0. template # 8000_v2.2.0.0.0 it reads the error “Exception response received – type 2”.
Product Line
PM8000 meter
Environment
Communications - Installation/Setup
Cause
The meter Modbus communication parameters were not configured correctly.
Resolution
The basic parameter for Modbus Map on the meter were configured correctly but not the advanced ones. This was required to use ION Setup Software in advanced mode and verify the “Security Options Modules” and look for their settings. Unfortunately, the module “S0P1 Modbus Map Access” was set to “NO” instead of “YES”, therefore editing the status of this module resolved the issue.
To do so, go to:
ION Setup
-> Hold down the “CTRL” key then click on the meter to access the ION Setup advanced Mode -> let roll down -> Click on “Security Options Modules”-> double click “Security Options 1” -> Setup Registers -> S0P1 Modbus Map Access - > Edit -> at the drop select “YES” then OK.
It will look like at the following figure.
