How to create and link a Data Mapping Measurement Modules to a Convert Module using ION Setup Software on PM8000?

Issue
Modbus registers showing illegal Modbus register exception code "Illegal data" after upgrading the firmware from v2.2.2.1 to v3.0.0 reading Frequency when the Generator is OFF

Product Line
  • PM8000 series meter
  • ION7400 series meter
  • ION9000 series meter
  • ION Setup Software

Environment
Firmware

Cause
Customer may experience reading issue on PM8000 v3.0.0 reading frequency when the Generator is OFF. Any Modbus request that includes 1 or more addresses where the input to the data mapping module(s) is N/A will result in Modbus exception.

Resolution
This is the work around solution for the HEP meters v3.0.0 before the update version.  This can be done using ION Setup Software in advanced configuration by creating a Data Mapping Measurement Modules and link it to Convert Modules.
Procedure:

a) Creating a Data Mapping Measurement Modules
-> Click on Data Mapping Measurement Modules -> Double click to open it then let it rolls down -> in the ION Setup space on the right -> Right click to add a “Data Measurement modules”, e.g.:” Data Mapping Meas 1”. You can right click on it to rename. Exit out the Module.

b) Creating a Convert Modules
-> Convert Modules -> Double click to open it then let it roll down -> in the ION Setup space on the right -> Right click and add a “Convert Module”, e.g.: “Convert 17”. You can right click on it to rename. Double click to open it
-> Inputs -> Select Source then Edit to find the module to be converted e.g. Frequency, which is under Power Meter Modules then Power Meter, select it then OK.
-> Setup Registers -> Select Convert Module created which display N/A conversion -> Edit -> From the drop down select Convert to 0 or convert to 1 depends of your application for this case is “Convert to 0”. Exit out the module

c) Linking the Convert Module to the Data Mapping Module
Back to Data Mapping Meas. Modules -> Double click to open it then let it rolls down -> Input -> Select the Measurement to link to from the list -> Edit -> Scroll down until you see the convert module -> Select it -> OK -> Then Send to the meter. Exit out then reopen your data Mapping Module, which will look like shown below. When complete exit out your ION Setup then go test the result on your system.
