Schneider Electric Combats Water and Wastewater Management Constraints with Digital Technologies

  • At the Malaysia International Water Convention 2021 (MIWC 2021), Schneider Electric addressed the importance of water and wastewater management digitisation for operational sustainability, efficiency, and resiliency.
  • In partnership with CTI Resources, AVEVA, and Stratus, Schneider Electric introduced the AVEVA™ Unified Operations Center (UOC) for water & wastewater management.

Schneider Electric, the leader of digital transformation of energy management and automation addressed existing and emerging challenges in the water and wastewater management industry and their implications at the Malaysia International Water Convention 2021 (MIWC 2021) today. The company joined forces with CTI Resources, AVEVA and Stratus to leverage each other’s expertise in the development of Water 4.0 technologies and solutions for companies that are looking to resolve management constraints. Schneider Electric and its partners also introduced the AVEVA™ Unified Operations Center (UOC) offering that is designed for companies to ensure operational sustainability, efficiency, and resiliency.

The pandemic has brought upon a unique set of challenges for the water and wastewater industry, on top of existing challenges such as aging infrastructures, financial limitations, and lack of knowledge transfer within the workforce. Newer challenges such as the lack of end-to-end operational visibility due to travel restraints can hinder companies from moving along with their progress in digitisation as well as meeting larger goals as per the sixth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) - water and sanitation for all by 2030.

Schneider Electric, alongside various industry experts in the MIWC 2021 shared insights and exchanged ideas on how companies can navigate the future of water in the new era of normal. Shanmugavel Subramaniam, Schneider Electric’s Water & Wastewater Segment Leader shared that, “The pandemic has not changed the real priorities of utilities, instead, it has created new and emerging challenges. With the acceleration of digital transformation, it is now time for industry leaders and key players to take on this challenge by considering the adoption of digital technologies.

“As the leader in digital transformation, Schneider Electric is committed to tackling these challenges by moving towards a ‘remote everything’ concept. A good investment in digital technologies enables operators to lower implementation costs as it will help address challenges quickly, avoiding potential costly issues. A simple IT/OT convergence-based solution will also empower the next generation of workers to easily adapt, saving on training time and reducing operational risks. In the long run, we foresee that going digital will improve operational sustainability, with reduced water leakage and loss through better decision making and processes,” he added.

To address emerging challenges in the industry, Schneider Electric, joined hands with CTI Resources, AVEVA and Stratus to introduce the “heart” of the “Water 4.0” revolution – AVEVA™ Unified Operations Center (UOC). The UOC is a real-time operational performance management center that utilises Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Big Data Analytics with a centralised view that supports water and wastewater organisations to make informed decisions in a short time -- a crucial consideration when facing highly disruptive issues.

“Together with Schneider Electric, AVEVA and Stratus, we built an Ecosystem that enables CTI Resources to play a role in shaping and transforming water operations into a centric system with the AVEVA™ Unified Operation Centre,” said Chai Kim Chen, Director of CTI Resources.

Ultimately, the UOC leverages Water 4.0 technologies to digitally transform the water and wastewater management industry for improved sustainability, efficiency, and resilience.

Key benefits of the UOC include:

  • Transparent & Collaborative: The UOC provides full visibility of data to streamlines processes and avoids operational silos.
  • Seamless Integration: The UOC seamlessly integrates with all operational systems to deliver faster, better, more efficient decision-making.
  • Agile & Highly Receptive: The UOC enables faster and more informed decisions especially for crises response to maximise performance.
  • Predictive, Not Passive: The UOC swaps crisis mitigation for active risk management by spotting problems before they occur through predictive analytics.
  • Highly Compatible: The UOC can be easily adapted to current systems with its vendor-agnostic technology.
