Using a Self-Powered hub with PowerChute Personal Edition

Issue:
How to use a Self-Powered hub with PowerChute Personal Edition

Product Line:
PowerChute Personal Edition

Environment:
All supported Windows OS
*A "self-powered" hub is a hub that gets its power from the wall outlet as opposed to getting its power directly through the PC.

Cause:
If you are using a self-powered USB hub to connect multiple devices to your PC, plug the power cable of the hub into the Battery Backup outlet. Don't use the wall socket. This will ensure that the hub and the connected devices still work during a power failure. This will also slow down the system shut down initiated by the UPS or the user.

Solution:

1. Connect the Power Cable of the Battery Backup to the PC.

2. Connect the Power Cable of the hub into the Battery Backup outlet.

3. Connect the devices (printer, scanner, mobile phone etc...) to the self-powered hub and plug the Hub Communications Cable to the USB port located on the PC.

4. Connect the Battery Backup USB Cable of the Battery Backup directly into a USB port located on the PC.
