VIP400 and VIP410 embedded battery lifetime and effect of supplying LED lamps for 24-hour period following a trip.

As per the VIP400 / VIP410 user manual, this self-powered relay uses a LS14250 3.6V lithium battery (power rating 1.10Ah) manufactured by SAFT industries.

The expected lifetime quoted in the user manual is based on laboratory measurements and simulations.
The result is an announcement of 10 years but actually there should be a very comfortable safety margin of approximately 1.5 to 2 times.

Regarding the effect of a trip event on the battery lifetime, according to the documentation the "TRIP" LED will flash during a maximum of 24 hours after a fault.  During this time, the LED's are powered by the embedded battery.
This extra consumption does NOT reduce the guaranteed lifetime due to the margin.

As a conclusion, any usage not significantly different from what could be expected for a standard protection relay will not decrease the battery lifetime under the quoted value of 10 years.
