Video: Disabling BPDU (Bridge Protocol Data Unit) Packets on a PM8000/ION7400 Meter
Issue
A PM8000 meter may disable an ethernet port on a network port upon connection due to a BPDU guard on a network. PM8000 meters send out BPDU packets while RSTP (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol) is enabled.

Cause
A BPDU guard being enabled on the network.

Resolution
Disable RSTP from the meters Ethernet Settings:
On the Front display:
  1. Navigate to Setup Menu > Communications Setup
  2. Scroll to the Ethernet Setup Menu using the Up and Down arrows.
  3. Select the Enable RSTP option and set it to No.
In ION Setup:
  1. Click on the  Device that you want to set up.
  2. Click on the View Setup Options Only tab from the tool bar.
  3. While holding on the Ctrl key, left click on your PM8000.
  4. Click on Comm Module.
  5. Double-click Ethernet module and click on the Setup Registers tab.
  6. Scroll until you see the Enable RSTP option, Edit it and set it to No, then Click the OK button.
  7. Click the Send button to apply the change to the meter.

This will disable BPDU packets from being sent out by the PM8000/ION7400 meter.

NOTE: This does not impede the switch functionality of the PM8000s ethernet ports.
