What is the transfer time of APC Smart-UPS and Symmetra Units?
Issue:
What is the transfer time of APC Smart-UPS and Symmetra Units?
Product Line:
Smart-UPS and Symmetra Units
Answer:
Transfer time refers to the duration in time it takes the UPS to switch from one state (i.e. Onbattery, Online...) to another.
The transfer time of Line interactive units (SMC, SCL, SMX, SMT and SMTL): High = 2-4ms, Med = 6-8ms, Low = 8-10ms
Note: Lowering the sensitivity will increase the transfer time.
For detailed discussion about power quality and sensitivity is further discussed in FA372508 .
With Double Online Conversion units (SRT, SRTL, SRYL, SURT and SURTD) there is no transfer time.
In the double conversion on line design, failure of the input AC does not cause activation of the transfer switch, because the input AC is charging the backup battery source which provides power to the output inverter. Therefore, during an input AC power failure, on line operation results in no transfer time.
