Sepam 2000 - is it necessary to order the SFTKit accessory and a CD of the SFT2801 software to connect to the relay?
The legacy Sepam 2000 relays provided a 9-pin RS-232 port on the front panel which allows the user to read the existing settings and to program certain parameters.

The question has been raised as to whether or not the "SFTKit" accessory is required in order to make the connection from a laptop PC to the Sepam itself.  We have also received enquiries as to whether or not a CD for the SFT2801 pocket terminal emulator software can be provided.

In fact, it is not absolutely necessary to order the SFTKit accessory kit.  The SFTKit contained an RS-232 cable, and also an interface adaptor which protected the Sepam port from surges.  It is possible connect directly from the RS-232 port of your laptop to the Sepam 2000 front port using a standard RS-232 cable.  It is best to take precautions to avoid the risk of power surges, but generally the connection works quite well even without the interface adaptor.

Regarding the SFT2801 software, a CD was not developed for this software as it dates back to the time when 3.5" floppy disks were more common.  The software can be obtained by contacting the Sepam MV Protection Relays Level 3 Support Team.  This software can be freely distributed to external customers.
