Where can a braking resistor be installed on the Altivar 900 series drives?
Issue:
Altivar 900 drives installing braking resistor.

Product line:
Altivar Process 900:  ATV930, ATV950

Environment:
All

Cause:
Customer has an ATV930 or ATV950 drive and wants to confirm wiring connections for the Braking resistor.

Resolution:
See FAQ https://www.se.com/us/en/faqs/FA307553/ for minimum allowable resistance for each drive part number.

See Instruction Sheet NHA87388 for SE DB resistor part numbers, ohm and kW ratings.
NOTE that many of these parts may not be sold in the US so consult https://www.se.com/us/en/faqs/FA243806/ for alternatives.
Also included is information regarding mounting of the DB resistors and connections.
On most ATV900 drives the DB resistor connects to the internal Dynamic Braking transistor using terminals PA+ and PB.

However, if your drive's part number ends with a "C", the drive does not have an internal braking transistor, and an additional braking unit is required.
For 230V size 6 drives (ATV930D55M3C, ATV930D75M3C) see part number VW3A7106:
https://www.se.com/us/en/product/VW3A7106/braking-unit---60-kw---200-240-v---for-variable-speed-drive/
For 400-460V size 6 drives (ATV930C11N4C, ATV930C13N4C, ATV930C16N4C) see part number: VW3A7105:
https://www.se.com/us/en/product/VW3A7105/braking-unit---100-kw---400-480-v---for-variable-speed-drive/
For 400-460V size 7 drives (ATV930C22N4C, ATV930C25N4C, ATV930C31N4C) see part number:
VW3A7101
https://www.se.com/us/en/product/VW3A7101/resistance-braking-unit---200-kw---400-v---for-variable-speed-drive/

3rd party braking modules may not work with the ATV930 size 7 drives.
Consult your ADM (Area Drives Manager) for assistance if you are considering this.
