Vijeo Webgate Win 11 compatibility
Issue:
Webgate and ActiveX do not work under Microsoft Windows 11 . How can WebGate and ActiveX be accessed using Google Chrome?
Product Line:
Vijeo Designer
Resolution:
Vijeo Designer webgate needs Internet Explorer and ActiveX to work.
Windows 11 does not have Internet Explorer anymore so the webgate will not work.
There is a workaround that should work.
Install Google Chrome on the computer and install the Chrome addon IE Tab. This addon in Chrome will emulate internet Explorer.
It should then be possible to use the webgate and the ActiveX.
Note: It is not a supported solution by Schneider Electric.
The recommendation would be to upgrade to Operator Terminal Expert.
Here is the procedure to set Chrome with the IE Tab addon and have the webgate to work in Windows 11:
Download Google Chrome and install it on the computer.
Start Chrome and do a search for “IE Tab” in the Google Search bar.
In the result, go to the IE Tab https://www.ietab.net site.
NOTE: IE Tab is a Chrome extension that allows to view pages using the Internet Explorer engine.
This extension is provided by a third party company and it is not a free extension. It is required to purchase a license.
Once on the IE Tab web site, you should have a button “Try it Now”, click on it.
On the new page that is displayed, click the “Add to Chrome” button.
Once added, verify in Chrome –> Settings -> More Tools -> Extensions that the extension is there:
Now that the IE Tab extension is installed, it will be possible to connect to the HMI using the Vijeo Designer Web Gate
NOTE: The usual Web Gate settings required in Internet Explorer are still required. For example, the Protected Mode in IE will need to be unchecked (or the site should be added to the list of safe sites).
