PME - How to add a control object to energize PM5500 digital outputs
Issue
The user wants to be able to energize and/or de-energize PM5500 meter digital outputs remotely using PME software.

*Warning: Take backups of any files prior to modifying them. Ensure the backups are in a location that will not be overwritten (i.e. the Desktop).
*Warning: Installation and maintenance of this device should only be performed by qualified, competent personnel that have appropriate training and experience with high voltage and current devices. Failure to follow the instructions/warnings in the Meter Installation Guide can result in permanent damage to the meter, severe injury or death.


1. Open the ...\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\Power Monitoring Expert\system\translators folder
2. Copy the pm5500.ion and pm5500.xml files
3. Paste to the ...\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\Power Monitoring Expert\config\translators folder
4. Open the pm5500.xml file in Notepad
5. Find the DO1 Counter Reset register, copy the whole line for it, and paste it 4 times:

6. For the copied lines, change the Name and WriteValue fields to the following, refer to the below screenshot for formatting:

Name="DO2 Energize" WriteValue="6003, 65535, 2"
Name="DO2 De-Energize" WriteValue="6002, 65535, 2"

7. File > Save the pm5500.xml file
8. Open Management Console > Tools > System > Device Type Editor
9. File > Open, then change the folder to the ...\config\translators folder, then select the pm5500.ion file
10. In the left pane in the Measurement Tree, right-click on Resets and Triggers and select Add New Module

11. Add a new Module called Digital Outputs, then right-click on Digital Outputs and select Add New Register:

12. Add 4 registers:

DO1 Energize
DO1 De-Energize
DO2 Energize
DO2 De-Energize

13. Right-click on DO1 Energize > Modify Node > copy/paste the Label to the Name and change to a Pulse_Register type:

14. Repeat this for DO1 De-Energize, DO2 Energize, and DO2 De-Energize
15. Lastly, click and drag the corresponding register from the Measurement Tree onto the register in the table in the Modbus Map. The ION Handle number should change to match the register:

16. File > Save, the changes should automatically be pushed to the system in 1-2 minutes
17. In Vista, create a Control Object and link it to the Energize and De-Energize registers for one of the digital outputs:

Double-clicking the control object will trigger the meter to energize/de-energize the digital outputs. This can be confirmed on the device diagram Inputs/Outputs tab:
