The operating Voltage of TeSys Island is 24V.
The minimum and maximum Voltage for Island to work is 20.7V DC to 28.8V DC.
The recommended size of cable is recommended for powering Bus Coupler 2.5sq mm.
The maximum current consumption for Tesys island is 3A for the modules excluding the consumption for IOs.
Consider the TABLE 1 information represented at the end for individual module consumption to better size the power supply.
Can we connect multiple Island with a single power supply?
Yes it can be done however we need to select the proper power supply sizing according to the TABLE1.
How many Island can be connected with 3A, 5A, 10A and 20A 24VDC power supply?
It depends on the configuration which need to be selected based on the TABLE 1.
In addition to the consumption of each module whenever the IO modules are there, the consumption of each IO should be considered in the power supply sizing.
However it is recommended to use the separate power supplies for powering up the island and for IOs.
For ex:- For island of BC+VIM+20 Starters( 9A,25A & 38A) the current consumption is 3A that means with 2.5sq. mm cables
1) Island of the same can be used with 3A supply.
2) Island of the same can be used with 5A supply.
3) Islands of the same can be used with 10A supply.
4) Islands of the same can be used with 20A supply.
In addition to the power supply capacity 2.5sq. mm cable can carry maximum of 20A due to the max.
Cable size of 2.5sq. mm for powering up the island the total consumption of the island connected to a single power supply should not cross 20A.
When there are multiple islands connected to a single power supply consider a buffer of 2A i.e. the total consumption of the island should not cross 18A.
The tolerance on 24V DC supply for Island is from 20.7V to 28.8V.
Q. Does Island is having protection if power supply short- circuit?
A. Yes Island is having an in-built fuse to protect against any short-circuit but once fuse is blown because of short circuit the Bus-coupler needs to be replaced.
We recommend always to put an external fuse of 3A so that in case of short circuit only external fuse will be blown off and island works in protective zone.
The maximum load can connect to the Output of DIO module Max. of 500mA load for each output.
Sizing the Power Supply:
Kindly refer TABLE 1 below details with example to understand the sizing of power supply
Ex: if Island consists of 22 modules i.e., BC+VIM+20 Starter. Then the consumption of the island will be BC = 300mA
VIM = 10mA
1 number of Size1 (9A,25A and 38A) Starter Close consumption = 130mA
20 number of Size1 (9A,25A and 38A) Starter Close consumption = 2.6A
So total consumption on 24V rail BC+VIM+20ST CLOSE = 3A at 24V.
Hence Power Supply of 3A is required to power ON this Island configuration.
In similar manner we can select the configuration and the ampere rating of the power supply.
*we recommend to keep a buffer of 5 % on the capacity of power supply when it is shared with multiple islands.
Note :- All values mentioned in example are at 24V DC rail, if Island is operating at minimum or maximum operating voltage of island then the current rating will change.
