!!!Confidential Content

Issue

The following error is shown when an ION meter is opened in ION Setup using single device mode:

ION Setup Pop up window "Potential Security Risk: Certificate Error Summary"

"Potential Security Risk. Certificate Error Summary. Detected an invalid security certificate in use. Certificate has expired. The certificate is not trusted because it is self-signed. Error code: RemoteCertificateNameMismatch, RemoteCertificateChainErrors. The security certificate is not trusted by your computer's operating system. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection. Only press Proceed if you are sure the connection is secure."

Environment

ION Setup

Cause

This message is caused when a meter is configured to use Secure ION, or ION over TLS. By default, devices that support Secure ION include a self-signed SSL certificate. If using ION Setup single device mode, you must accept the certificate every time you connect to the device using ION Setup.

Resolution

To increase security and prevent this message from re-appearing in single device mode, use a Certificate Authority (CA). This can be provided by IT.
