UPS Selector FAQs

You can make an estimate of your required load by adding up the expected power draw of the equipment you will protect with the UPS. Keep in mind that equipment nameplate ratings are often higher that actual power draw. You may also want to consider future proofing your estimate if potentially adding more equipment later.

Typical power draw of some common equipment:

  • Laptop: 30-70W
  • Desktop PC: 200-500W
  • Gaming System: 300-500W
  • TV: 50 – 200W
  • Router / Switch: 10-30W
  • Server: 200+W

The UPS runtime is the length of time the UPS will support the load when running on battery power. Based on your operational set-up and the criticality of the equipment being supported, decide how long your UPS needs to support the load when running on battery.

UPS runtime is determined based on the amount of load supported and the technical characteristics of a specific UPS. Within the UPS Selector tools, runtime is calculated based on the required load provided by the user and the UPS specifications from Schneider Electric.

The UPS Selector tools allow the user to enter a load and runtime requirement and will show UPSs that will meet that requirement, starting with those that are the closest match. The tool also provides additional filters based on other features and specifications to further narrow done the options to help find the right UPS.

After the selection of a particular UPS, the UPS Selector tools will provide optional add-ons that are compatible including software, services, and accessories.

The UPS Selector tools are designed specifically to help find the right UPS for your application with optional add-ons such as software, services, and accessories. If you require other infrastructure equipment to support and protect your application, we recommend contacting one of our certified partners to develop an integrated solution using one of our best-in-class solution design tools.

Our recommended path to purchase the equipment, software, and services configured using the UPS Selector tools is to reach out to one of our certified partners to help quote and purchase your bill-of-material. You can find a certified partner by clicking the ‘Where to Buy’ button in the cart checkout and then use the partner finder page for your country.
