B.A.A. publishes inaugural sustainability report with support from official multi-year sustainability partner Schneider Electric

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) and Schneider Electric, the leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, today jointly announced the release of the B.A.A.’s first sustainability report. The report details the organization’s ongoing efforts to reduce environmental impact while creating safe, community-oriented athletic events that promote healthy lifestyles. This significant milestone also highlights Schneider Electric’s continued commitment to the greater Boston area, underscoring the shared vision of building a more sustainable future for the local community, digital infrastructure, and beyond.

“Publishing this report is a significant milestone towards our goal to be an industry leader in sustainability,” said Jack Fleming, President and Chief Executive Officer of the B.A.A. “Reporting regularly on our progress is an important part of our journey and by far, the most significant driver in our efforts and reporting continues to be the Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America. We encourage all of our stakeholders to engage with us in this collective effort to move towards a more sustainable future.”

“Schneider Electric is honored to work alongside B.A.A. for the inaugural sustainability report,” Steve Wilhite, President, Schneider Electric’s Sustainability Business. “This incredible first year included setting initial climate goals, raising millions in charitable contributions, and generating over half a billion dollars in economic activity. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the B.A.A. over the next several years, working together to achieve our shared vision of a resilient future, with a steadfast commitment to sustainability and the Boston community."

Key highlights from the report include:

  • Naming Schneider Electric as the official sustainability partner for all B.A.A. events, further demonstrating both organizations’ shared vision of building a more sustainable future in Boston and beyond. Read more here.
  • Calculating scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions for baseline year 2023 and setting a climate target for 2030.
  • Diverting 79% of waste at the 2024 Boston Marathon through a variety of initiatives such as donating more than 20 tons of clothing and 600 pairs of sneakers to local organizations.
  • Engaging more than 9,000 volunteers at the 2024 Boston Marathon and celebrating 27 volunteers with more than 30 years of service in 2024.
  • Raising $45.7 million by 168 nonprofit organizations in 2024 through the Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program.
  • Contributing to $71.9 million in total charitable impact from the 2024 Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America and generating $500.9 million in economic activity at the state and local level.
  • Hosting nine dedicated youth and community programs in 2024, serving 3,200 participants throughout the year.

Through their multi-year collaboration, Schneider Electric and the B.A.A. will continue to work toward measurable sustainability goals, leveraging Schneider Electric’s extensive expertise in helping businesses and communities reduce carbon emissions. This partnership underscores a strong dedication to the greater Boston region, with both organizations working together to deliver meaningful benefits that enhance the well-being and resilience of the entire community.

“As the official Sustainability Partner of the B.A.A., Schneider Electric is proud to support the B.A.A. and the broader Boston community in embracing more sustainable practices” said Aamir Paul, President of North America Operations for Schneider Electric. “By combining our expertise with the B.A.A.’s longstanding tradition of athletic excellence, we can help foster healthy lifestyles and generate meaningful impact—including local economic opportunities and community support—for Boston and beyond.”
