What does the "R" (or "R-Handles" pointing to dash lines) printed on spaces on the old load center directory labels mean?

Installation of Replacement Tandem Breakers in non-Class CTL load centers

Resolution:
That marking is an indication of spaces in which tandem breakers (Replacement Tandem Breakers only) are permitted to be installed in that load center. The "R-Handles" indicates the second handle circuit of an old style tandem breaker which was constructed with the handle throws above and below each other. These would then be on the left and right as the breaker was installed in the panel.



Note: these load centers can NOT accept QOT tandem circuit breakers.  They only can accept the replacement tandem breakers for use in non-class CTL load centers found in the below table:
