What are the clearance requirements for Schneider Electric Low Voltage Dry Type Distribution Transformers from walls or other obstructions?

Issue:
Clearance requirements for Transformer from external obstructions.

Product Line:
LV Transformers

Environment:
Applies to LV Transformers by SquareD/Schneider Electric

Cause:
Transformers radiate heat when in operation, which must be dissipated

Resolution:
Older, non-Energy Efficient Ventilated Dry Type Transformers must be installed so that a minimum of 6 inches clearance is available between a ventilation opening and any wall or other obstructions.

Energy Efficient (EE Type) Ventilated Dry Type Transformers must be installed so that a minimum of 3 inches clearance is available between a ventilation opening and any wall or other obstructions. This does not apply to bottom ventilation openings.  Non-Ventilated Transformers should also be a minimum of 3 inches from any obstruction on all sides and top.

Newer Energy Efficient (EX Type) require .5" from rear and sides to any obstruction. Epoxy Resin Filled Transformers may be mounted directly on the wall, but require 12 inches on both sides, top and bottom. Unit Substation Style Transformers require a minimum of 12 inches around the ventilation openings, and local codes may exceed that. The clearance requirement is clearly marked on the nameplate of the Transformer. Should the name plate requirements or local codes vary from the above, the greater of the two takes precedence.
