Window Server 2012 R2 No RDS license when you connect to a Windows Server 2012

Issue
When attempting to remote into a Windows Server 2012 R2 server there is an error “Remote session was disconnected because there are no Remote Desktop client access licenses available for this computer. Please contact the server administrator“

Product Line
Power Monitoring Expert 7.2.2
PowerScada Expert 7.40

Environment
Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop

Cause
This issue occurs because the RDSH server is missing certificates when a connection arrives and it cannot request a license for that connection to the Licensing server.

Resolution
Microsoft has released a hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2916846

*Warning: This article contains information about editing the registry. Improper changes to the registry can permanently damage the operating system. Always backup the registry before making any changes.*
To manually resolve:
Take a look at the following key in the registry (of the terminal server license machine)

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\RCM

If a key called ‘Grace Period’ is present, this means the license service has not correctly removed this entry which will force the server to always run in unlicensed mode. Simply delete the Grace Period key

You may need to give permission to the admin account you are logged in as in order to delete the key or change ownership. The license server will then need rebooting but should allow the connections through after this You may then see the Grace Period key return after a reboot, the hotfix mentioned above will resolve this.
