Resolution
To change the connection type:
  1. Back up the ION_Network, ION_Data, and ApplicationModules databases as a precaution.
  2. Stop all the ION and Application Module services
  3. Accurately note down the exact device name as it shows in PME "Group. Name" (ie: MainBuilding.Feeder1)
Source Name Example
NOTE: There is a chance that the display name is not the same as the actual source name if the device was "Renamed" after it was added. To confirm the source name, please navigate into SSMS and go to the ION Network - "dbo.SRC_Source" table. In this table will be a "Name" and "Display Name" column. The "Name" column is what you will want to be sure you record for when you read the device later on to ensure proper historical data transfer. It can be renamed again afterward.
  1. Delete the serial/ethernet device from the management console by right-clicking on the device in the device list.
Management Console Example
  1. Re-add the device as an ethernet/serial device making sure that the group and name are exactly the same. In this example: MainBuilding.Feeder1.
Source Name readded
  1. Restart the ION and ApplicationModules services.
The Log Inserter will use the existing entries in the Source table (ION_Data), SRC_Source table (ION_Network), and DataSourceBus.DataSourceDevice/DataSourceBus.LogicalDevice tables (ApplicationModules) so that the historical data will be continuous and everything referencing this device will carry on as it did before.
