How does the surge counter work?

Resolution:
The counter increments by 1 digit when the voltage goes above the rated Maximum Continuous Operating Voltage (MCOV) of the Metal Oxide Varistors (MOVs).
*Note - The counter may also increase every time the test button is pressed.
