What is a Split Core Current Transformer?
Issue
Difference between Solid Core (or continuous core) vs. Split Core CTs
Product Line
LV Transformers
Environment
Applies to Split Core Current Transformers by SquareD/Schneider Electric
Cause
In some installations, the measured conductor cannot be opened for insertion of the CT
Resolution
A standard Current Transformer with a solid core cannot be opened to permit insertion of the buss or conductor. The buss or conductor must be routed through the opening or window in the center of the CT. A Current Transformer with a split core has a openable/closeable mechanical gap which allows you to easily install the CT around the existing bus or cable conductors, thus eliminating the need to disconnect, move, and reconnect the bus or cable.
